Below are examples of Painted Words, short pieces written by members of the public and recorded by members of the cast of The Good Person of Sichuan in autumn 2013.
The pieces were displayed around the public spaces of the theatre, some with attached MP3 players to give the option for the work to be read or listened to.
As with everything to do with The Only Way is Ethics they all started with the single provocation set out below.

Because someone is poor does it mean they are more likely to lead bad lives? And does that mean that those with money are kinder and more generous? Or do those who have it just hang on to it for themselves?
If that’s true, for your own well being is it better to remain poor?
In desperate times, what would you do to survive?
